The 5 Days Marangu Route is the shortest and most direct route to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. It is also known as the “Coca-Cola Route” and is the only route with mountain huts, offering beds, dining halls, and better shelter from weather. This route is ideal for climbers who prefer comfort and a gradual trail, but it requires good fitness due to the shorter acclimatization time.
After breakfast, drive to Marangu Gate for registration. Begin trekking through lush rainforest, with chances to spot monkeys and exotic birds. The trail is gentle and scenic, perfect for starting your climb. Arrive at Mandara Hut, rest, enjoy dinner, and overnight.
Trek out of the rainforest into moors and open landscapes, enjoying clear views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. The hike is steady, helping your body acclimatize. Arrive at Horombo Hut in the afternoon for meals and overnight stay.
Cross the alpine desert toward Kibo Hut. The landscape is dramatic with volcanic rocks and sparse vegetation. Reach Kibo Hut, have an early dinner, and rest. Prepare for the midnight summit push.
Start the summit climb around midnight, trekking slowly to Gilman’s Point, then continue to Uhuru Peak to watch the sunrise. Celebrate reaching Africa’s highest point, then descend back to Horombo Hut for overnight.
Descend through moorland and rainforest to Marangu Gate, receive your summit certificate, and celebrate your achievement. Transfer back to your hotel in Moshi for rest or onward travel.
